With the Springboks playing in New Zealand, the early kick-off times have meant a shift from our usual braai gatherings to something a little different: Brunch, Bokke and Buddies.
Instead of fires and grills, our table was set with fresh bagels, cold smoked trout, boiled eggs, and cream cheese. For those of us who don’t eat bread (like me!), the same delicious ingredients came together in hearty breakfast bowls – a fresh and wholesome way to enjoy the game.

The Bagels
Francly Bagels are the newest addition to our shop (and table). Since Kleinsky’s, who made our previous batch, are no longer wholesaling, we’ve found another super supplier. Their bagels are boiled before baking – the traditional cooking method that gives them that unmistakable chewy crust and soft, fluffy inside. The prep method is a little more involved than just giving them a quick toast but it’s so worth it. Check out full instructions here
We’ve paired them with classic toppings, but they’re so versatile you could take them in any direction – sweet, savoury, or piled high with your favourite toppings. To order bagels visit our online shop here

The Star: Cold Smoked Trout
Of course, the true star of the morning was our Ocean Jewels cold smoked trout. Silky, flavourful, and perfectly balanced, it’s ideal for breakfast platters, canapés, or simply enjoyed on its own. Lightly cured and smoked, it offers a melt-in-your-mouth texture that pairs beautifully with cream cheese and eggs.
It’s one of our bestsellers for a reason – whether you’re hosting rugby brunches, Sunday family breakfasts, or want something special for your weekday meals, our smoked trout always delivers. To order smoked trout, visit our online shop here

Rugby, Friends & Food
The table looked as festive as the morning felt – bagels, bowls, coffee, and good company, all of us wearing our rugby jerseys and cheering on the Boks. It was proof that with the right food, you don’t need a braai to celebrate together.
Whether you’re a bagel fan or a bowl lover, one thing’s certain: smoked trout makes everything better.
