Kathleen from Pesto Princess and I have known each other since the very early days of the Neighbourgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill back in 2006. We were both small businesses finding our feet, spending long weekends serving customers, chatting between the rushes, and watching the market grow into something really special. Over the years we’ve often thrown ideas around about doing some sort of collaboration. It always seemed like such a natural fit.
Life and business have a way of keeping everyone busy, so while the idea was always there, the timing never seemed quite right.
Until now.
A Little Surprise for Our Customers
One of the wonderful things about working with other local food producers is that sometimes opportunities come along that everyone can enjoy. Every now and then, Pesto Princess has small overruns of some of their products. Rather than letting these delicious products go to waste, they’ve very generously offered them to us so that we can pass them on to you – our amazing Ocean Jewels customers. That means that from time to time you might discover a little Pesto Princess surprise tucked into your delivery.
The fun part is that we won’t always know exactly what we’re getting ourselves! One week it might be a pesto, another week it could be a sauce or something completely different. Every surprise will be a little gift from the Pesto Princess team, and we hope you’ll enjoy discovering something new to cook with.

It’s one of the reasons Kathleen and I always thought our businesses belonged together. Both Ocean Jewels and Pesto Princess believe that cooking at home should be enjoyable, approachable and full of flavour. When you start with quality ingredients, you don’t need to overcomplicate things.

Supporting Local Businesses
One of the things we’ve always loved about Cape Town’s food community is how willing people are to support one another. From those early Neighbourgoods Market days to where our businesses are today, it’s been incredible to watch so many local brands grow while staying true to what makes them special. Working together feels like coming full circle.
